Json{"title":"","text":"# MEV, an Unaware Ghost in Latam\n\nNine months ago, we applied for a grant from the newly formed PBS Foundation. Our initiative aimed to educate the Latam community about ME. Our goals were:\n\n- To teach about MEV and PBS.\n- To help prevent people from falling victim to MEV.\n- To raise awareness about considering MEV when developing products.\n\n### Initial Report and Community Feedback\n\nA couple of weeks later we received a message from [Eugene Leventhal](https://x.com/bbeats1) that out [proposal was accepted](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1alP2BYfyPebueNVIXnlsiUd31itFFfoGHnk4P1_icaw/edit). Our journey into this subject revealed that MEV-related topics are some of the most complex and obscure areas of Ethereum. Before to dive dive into our presentations and reports we asked different group of people if they knew about MEV, most of them answered a cold “No”. \n\nDuring the first report we gathered tons of feedback from different people in the ecosystem, [Barnabé Monnot](https://x.com/barnabemonnot) recommend us to include Execution Tickets, [Skylar](https://x.com/skylar_eth) recommend us to have in mind people with no technical background. One of the things that we would appreciated from the PBS Foundation team was to receive feedback on our outlines. We looked for feedback in the [Flashbots Collective](https://collective.flashbots.net/t/state-of-mev-report-request-for-comments/3133) but unfortunately we neither receive feedback. Despite this, we asked to people in the community how this first report whould be approached. With this in mind we decided to create a first report called “*Estado del Mev*” (State of MEV) in which we covered the fundamentals of MEV to introduce latam people in a simple way.\n\n### Events and Outreach\n\nWith this first report we organized several Twitter spaces and two meetups in Honduras and Colombia. The first meetup was held in San Pedro Sula as a side event from ETHLatam ([full report here](https://www.notion.so/ETHLatam-Honduras-Side-Event-c14a48fb357d4da5b7c16c2d46f227d2?pvs=21)). This meetup was a collaboration with [Scroll](https://x.com/Scroll_ZKP) and [SearchOnDora](https://x.com/SearchOnDora) and we introduce participants to MEV, we explained the fundamentals using analogies that help to onboard more people into the topic. Also, we had a talk during the main event and we took the opportunity to [present a talk about MEV seen from the stakers perspective](https://www.youtube.com/live/S85L6GNLYpE).\n\n\n\n\n\nThe second meetup was held in Bogotá, Colombia as a side event from BlockchainConf Bogotá. We decided to host the events as side events because that way we could attract more participants from different parts of the countries and at the same time create long term relationships we teams building accross latam. In the second meetup, we collaborated with [Axelar Latam](https://x.com/Axelar_ES), [Nación Bankless](https://x.com/NacionBankless) and [Polkadot México](https://x.com/PolkadotMexico_). This meetup held a more technical group, so we decided to take the opportunity to talk about EIP-7732 and debrief how PBS will help to strong censorship resistance in Ethereum.\n\n\n\nDuring these meetups participants asked questions about MEV in L2s, if the attacks were also happening in rollups or if it was only a matter of mainnet. We were aware that MEV in L2s was possible but didn’t know in what forms. So, for the [second report](https://www.kairosresearch.xyz/insights/el-futuro-del-mev) we decided to explore how MEV could evolve and be part of rollup ecosystem.\n\nBefore to go deep into the challenges of the second report, we decide to [host a virtual season](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frm6Qx__MJU&t=32s) about MEV in collaboration with more than 15 ETH communities from Latam. This was a success, our first community call and there was more than 80 participants eager to learn about the dark forest.\n\n### Evolving Challenges and Expanding Knowledge\n\nThe second report was challenging. We face ourselves to new concepts like Intents, OFAs or cross chain MEV. For the whole team this was exciting because we realized that what we knew was only a drop in the ocean (or in other way, a firefly in the forest). This time we struggle to find feedback for the outline, our friends in Latam didn’t knew about these topics and once again, we couldn’t get feedback from PBS Foundation. Eugene recommend us to contact with Tesa from Flashbots, she shared us a document that she was working on about the State of MEV for Flashbots, in this file we gather some of the concepts previously mentioned. \n\nIn our last side event at Ethereum Mexico 2024 [we talked about fundamentals of MEV](https://x.com/Research_Kairos/status/1838307788142833715) and how could impact the L2 ecosystem, also we shared what solutions L2 are implementing (like Timeboost from ArbitrumDAO) and taught participants to use MEV Protect and MEV Blocker. \n\n\n\nWe collaborated with different communities in Mexico to make this side event event bigger than the previous events ([we had overbooked](https://lu.ma/jsid5nu2)!). Even the talk about MEV in the main stage was the most interesting for the audience. \n\n### Reflections and Key Takeaways\n\nCollaborating with PBS Foundation has been an enriching journey. We not only deepened our understanding of MEV but also learned how to navigate the complexities of the Ethereum ecosystem. Additionally, we strengthened our relationships within the Latam blockchain community and pushed ourselves to new heights.\n\nWe are happy to conclude this collaboration with the PBS Foundation. We learn a lot of things not only about MEV, but about “how to go deeper into the dark forest”, about the community in latam and about ourselves. Collaborate with the PBS Foundation have been an interesting experience from different perspectives and we would love to collaborate again in the future if this is possible.
